"Royalty bearing" and "non-royalty bearing" streams are two industry terms used to explain which streams generate revenue, and which streams will not generate revenue. Essentially which ones you will get paid out on, and which ones you will not. The exact definition of each term varies from streaming platform to streaming platform, but here are the common themes.

Royalty bearing streams, generally speaking have to achieve the following:

  • Streams greater than 30 seconds in duration

Some examples of non-royalty bearing streams are:

  • Streams less than 30 seconds in duration
  • Suspicious streams (eg. bot-generated streams)

Please note that these are select examples, and are not all-encompassing.
